Ted Rosenthal is one of the leading jazz pianist/composers of his generation. Active in jazz education, he is on the faculties of The Juilliard School, and Manhattan School of Music, where he also served on their Board of Trustees and received the Presidential Medal for Distinguished Faculty Service. Micky Golomb, a legendary local jazz player, and enthusiast, and mentor to many younger players passed away Saturday night, March 2, 2019, peacefully at home after a tough fight with cancer.
The concert will be performed by Greg Wall, playing Micky’s Selmer SBA tenor sax, and Chris Coogan on the famous 1937 Steinway Model M, formerly of NYC’s Village Gate Jazz Club. Performing with Chris and Greg are bassist John Mobilio, and drummer Jim Royle.
Some of Micky’s bandmates and collaborators will join in during the second set.
The Micky Golomb Memorial Fund has been established to fund scholarships for local Fairfield County students going on to study Jazz in college or conservatory. The Fund may also fund other local jazz projects in the future.
