SUMMARY:Greg Burrows plays the music of Ed Bonoff
DESCRIPTION:Ed Bonoff is an unsung hero of the New York jazz scene. He experienced the bebop revolution at the original Birdland. He played drums with a variety of groups between the 1940s and 1960s. But he is more remembered for his compositions and arrangements. Drummer Greg Burrows\, with the support of Bonoff\, assembled a group of New York’s best working musicians to bring Bonoff’s music to life on "Let’s Not Wait.”  Now Greg brings that music to JATP\, live and in living color! \nGreg Burrows performs in a variety of musical situations in New York City and surrounding areas. He works currently as a freelancer (primarily in acoustic jazz situations). Among his numerous teachers and mentors\, Greg includes Joe Morello (Dave Brubeck)\, Dave Weckl\, Henry Adler\, Montego Joe\, Gary Chester\, and Mike Clark (Eddie Henderson\, Herbie Hancock). \nRECENT CAREER HIGHLIGHTS\n2020-2024: club gigs as a leader as well as sideman work in Maryland and Washington D.C. with jazz artists such as vibraphonist Chuck Redd\, pianist Dick Durham\, Hammond B3 organ artist Judd Nielsen\, guitarist Al Orlo\, and international blues artist Ms. Vaneese Thomas.  2015-2018: worked with bassist Brian Torff in a variety of performance/recording situations led by the bassist/composer. \nThroughout the 2000s until leaving the band in 2011\, Greg was a member of Brooklyn-based Peruvian psychedelic cumbia band Chicha Libre—a project featured on NPR\, National Geographic TV\, and presented at the Kennedy Center in Washington\, D.C. The group delivered festival and club performances worldwide (Montreal jazz Festival\, and shows in Germany\, Denmark\, Belgium\, Colombia\, and Istanbul).   Greg’s first recording as a leader\, Tell Your Story (featuring stellar New York jazz artists such as Bob DeVos on guitar and Harvie S on bass) was released in 2018 and logged plays on nationwide college/independent jazz radio.  Tell Your Story was produced by 2018 NEA Jazz Master\, Mr. Todd Barkan \nhttps://youtu.be/zjg17bZCjBg \nGreg Burrows\, drums\nFrank Basile\, bari sax\nGreg Wall\, tenor sax\nJohn Fumasoli\, trombone\nDave Childs\, piano\nRich Zurkowski\, bass

SUMMARY:Marc Copland
DESCRIPTION:Recognized as an innovator with a unique grasp of harmony and color\, Marc is perhaps the foremost proponent of the lyrical school of jazz pianism today. \nMarc’s nickname “the Piano Whisperer” was earned by his rich harmonic technique and crystalline sound. \nAs a sideman he played with John Abercrombie\, Gary Peacock\, Bob Belden\, Joe Lovano\, Greg Osby\, Tim Hagans\, James Moody\, Wallace Roney and many others. \nHis own groups include all-star cast like Joey Baron\, Drew Gress\, Gary Peacock\, Randy Brecker\, Dave Liebman & Ralph Alessi. \n“Copland continues to be an exemplar of the lyrical school of jazz pianism. His music\, often noted for its innovative harmonic language\, nevertheless is widely regarded as easily accessible to the listener. \nMany reviewers credit this blend to the pianist’s use of dynamics and touch\, and his distinctive pedal work. […] \nHis thirty-five releases make him perhaps the most prolific jazz pianist of the new millennium. \nMarc Copland\, piano\nYuriy Galkin\, bass\nSteve Johns\, drums\nGreg Wall\, tenor and soprano saxes\n\n  \nPurchase Tickets

Following the fiery footsteps of historic saxophone duos like Johnny Griffin and Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis\, Al Cohn and Zoot Sims\, and Dexter Gordon and Wardell Gray\, these two powerhouse horn players will be pushing each other to creative heights\, honoring a classic jazz tradition where the only true winner is the audience. \n  \nAndy Farber - Tenor Saxophone \nGreg Wall - Tenor Saxophone \nBob Albanese - Piano \nJennifer Vincent - Bass \nTony Jefferson - drums \n  \nAndy Farber is an award winning Jazz composer\, arranger and saxophonist and has spent years performing with the likes of Jon Hendricks and Wynton Marsalis.
