SUMMARY:Vincent Herring and Greg Wall remember Lee Konitz and Wayne Marsh
DESCRIPTION:The musical partnership of Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh stands as one of the most refined and intellectually vibrant collaborations in jazz history. Emerging from the orbit of Lennie Tristano\, their intertwined lines and cool\, conversational improvisations redefined the possibilities of collective expression—eschewing cliché in favor of spontaneous counterpoint\, rhythmic subtlety\, and deep listening.\nIn this spirit\, Vincent Herring and Greg Wall come together to honor that legacy\, revisiting this singular musical dialogue with both reverence and fresh insight.\nSaxophonist Vincent Herring's intense\, soulful\, multi-noted style and ebullient swing have excited audiences worldwide. On stage\, Herring and his band often make an incendiary sound over fine and controlled rhythms of modern times. \n\n\n\nVincent moved to New York City in early 1980's attending Long Island University. He first toured in the United States and Europe as part of the Lionel Hampton Big Band. With his sound strongly influenced by Julian “Cannonball” Adderley\, Vincent’s virtuosity and promise came to the attention of Nat Adderley. The two forged a nine-year musical relationship\, producing nine albums and touring around the world year after year. After Nat’s death\,  Louis Hayes collaborated with Vincent to form the Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band. Vincent worked and recorded with Cedar Walton for more than 20 years. \nHe has also appeared on stage and or recordings with Freddie Hubbard\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Louis Hayes\, Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers\, Horace Silver Quintet\, Jack DeJohnette’s Special Edition\, Larry Coryell\, Steve Turre\, The Mingus Big Band (Won a Grammy in 2010)\, Kenny Barron\, Nancy Wilson\, Dr. Billy Taylor\, Carla Bley\, Mike LeDonne\, Carl Allen\, Ron McClure\, and John Hicks among others. His extensive guest soloist appearances include performances with Wynton Marsalis at Lincoln Center and Jon Faddis and The Carnegie Hall Big Band. \nVincent tours frequently with his projects around the in the United States\, Europe\, Japan\, China and around the world. Vincent continues to share his distinct voice and musical knowledge\, as a performer and jazz educator. He is currently on staff at William Paterson University and at Manhattan School of Music. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nSaxophonist Rabbi Greg Wall\, also known as “The Jazz Rabbi\,” moved to New York City in 1982 after completing his degree at the famed New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Early studies with Archie Shepp\, Frank Foster\, and George Coleman put him on track to develop an expansive palette of jazz expression.\n\n\nGreg honed his craft playing in countless bands\, touring with a wide range of avant-garde and traditional projects\, and performing at venues including Carnegie Hall\, the Village Vanguard\, the Blue Note\, the Bottom Line\, Symphony Space\, Roulette\, and the King Cole Room at the St. Regis. He eventually found his home in the “Downtown Scene\,” a group of improvisers based at NYC’s Knitting Factory that blurred the lines between musical genres and styles.\n\nGreg toured internationally with Hasidic New Wave\, Later Prophets\, Neshama Carlebach\, and Zion 80\, and began a long musical relationship with choreographer Carolyn Dorfman\, writing and recording a number of full-length commissioned scores.\nHe was the musical voice of James Earl Jones in the feature film On the QT\, wrote music for and appeared in Jonah Hill’s Hollywood film The Sitter\, and recorded with the Unity Orchestra\, an eight-piece pan-global jam band.

SUMMARY:Giacomo Gates
DESCRIPTION:  \nGiacomo Gates does more than sing “a bunch of songs.” He is truly an entertainer\, for all ages and styles\, as audiences enjoy the music\, the interaction on the bandstand between him and his musicians\, the spontaneity\, the humor\, the stories about the music and composers\, along with their relation to everyday life. People are smiling\, having a good time\, while thoroughly enjoying the music. What usually lacks in most of today’s performances is obviously present … fun! \nThe criteria for defining jazz singing will probably be argued for the rest of time. But no matter which side of the argument one may be on\, there can be no doubt that Giacomo Gates is an authentic jazz vocalist. Heavily steeped in the traditions of the original vocal improvisers from Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald through their modern counterparts Betty Carter and Leon Thomas\, Giacomo’s own approach draws most heavily from the bebop-rooted masters like Jon Hendricks\, Babs Gonzales\, King Pleasure and most of all\, Eddie Jefferson. Like his influences\, Gates has forged his own unique path. \n  \nGreg Wall\, saxes
