Mitch Schechter
July 16 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Mitch Schechter, pianist and composer, is truly a musical mystic. A former protege of the great Mike Longo (pianist and music director for Dizzy Gillespie) has enjoyed making music with some of the finest musicians in New York while raising a family in a log cabin on a lake in highlands of NJ’s Northwestern corner. His music is exquisite, with almost symphonic development of themes, yet proving a harmonic and rhythmic playground for the performers who are fortunate enough to play it.
For eight years Mitch recorded and performed with mandolin and clarinet virtuoso Andy Statman, performing at Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, WNYC Radio, Symphony Space, and several European venues, including Bosendorfer Concert Hall in Amsterdam. He has been recording and performing his compositions over the years with his group The New American Quartet. As a sideman can be heard on numerous recordings along with Jerry Bergonzi, Mike Stern, Billy Hart, Vinnie Cutro, Jay Anderson, and Victor Jones. Under the direction of Mike Treni, Mitch performed with the BMI Composer's Workshop Big Band featuring Jerry Niewood.
This concert will feature Mitch’s music from the New American Quartet’s “Mystic Autumn', as well as music from a followup recording that featured the legendary singer Andy Bey.
