MICHAEL COCHRANE, pianist, composer, arranger and instructor has resided in the tri-state area since the fall of 1974. He has performed and/or recorded with: Sonny Forturne, Hannibal, Jack Walrath, Eddie Gomez, Tom Harrell, Paul Nash, John Clark, Clark Terry, Michael Brecker, Chico Freeman, Ted Curson, Oliver Lake, Bradford Hayes, The Spirit Of Life Ensemble and many more. Mr Cochrane has performed in Colleges, clubs and concert halls which have included: The Village Vanguard, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, The Blue Note, Weil Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tulley Hall and Merkin Hall. His touring experience spans many European countries as well as Canada, Japan, Puerto Rico, Greece, Russia, The Philippines and the Caribbean.
In 1985 Mr. Cochrane received a Master of Arts Degree in Music and Music Education with honors from New York University. He has been a part-time instructor at Princeton University, Rutgers University, Bloomingdale School of Music and JCC Thurnauer School of Music. His teachers have included: Jaki Byard, Ray Santisi, Eleanor Hancock and Madame Margaret Chaloff. Mr Cochrane has recorded over ten CDs as a leader. He has written several books of piano music and instruction which is published by Second Floor Music (distributed by Hal Leonard), SteepleChase, Charles Colin and his own publishing company, Inner Search Music.
