Fima Ephron and The First Light Band is a group of musicians committed to exploring the ideas of group improvisation in the context of arranged song forms. Harmony, groove and melody combine to create a jumping off point for the music to unfold. Some of the many artists that Fima has worked with include Screaming Headless Torsos, Lost Tribe, Walter Becker, David Torn, Gil Scott Heron, Natalie Merchant, Meshell n'degeocello, Hasidic New Wave (with Jazz Rabbi Greg Wall), David Fiuczynski/John Medeski's 'Lunar Crush, DreamTime, Yeoffi, Jeb Loi Nichols, Nate Smith and Kinfolk. 
He released a record titled “Soul Machine" for John Zorn’s Tzadik label, an independent release entitled “Quiet City" and a recording entitled“ Songs From The Tree”
 on the Ropeadope label.
