Joe, known as an upright player, is an accomplished electric bassist as well.

He earned his Masters Degree from Manhattan School of Music, and has studied with Dave Holland and Harvie Swartz. His performing credits read like a who’s-who of jazz, including Pat Metheny, Wallace Roney, Bob Mintzer and Dave Liebman. He was formerly an instructor in Jazz History at Harvard University.
